BRITISH Gas is threatening to axe 5,000 jobs and two call centres, unions said last night. The energy giant, under fire for a record pounds 595million profit on the back of crippling winter fuel bills, has secret plans to slash the number of back office staff, they revealed. In a new blow to their 17.5 million customers battered by high heating costs in the worst winter for 30 years, British Gas are facing a possible strike. The GMB, the companys largest union with 10,000 members, are sending out ballot papers on action this weekend. Sites at risk include Stockport, Leicester, Cardiff, Southampton and Edinburgh. GMB general secretary Paul Kenny said: “British Gas has turned from being a reasonable employer where people had job satisfaction into one with a culture of bullying and making profits at all costs.”

A US resolution branding the killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks during the First World War as genocide will seriously damage US-Turkish relations, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said. Turkey, a Nato member and an ally crucial to US interests in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and the Middle East, has expressed its outrage at Thursdays non-binding vote in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, and recalled its envoy to the US for consultations. The Obama administration made a last-minute appeal against the resolution and has vowed to stop the vote – which was broadcast live on Turkish television – from going further in Congress.

Relief Efforts

Avant-Garde Jewelry Co., a leading manufacturer and online retailer of tungsten and titanium rings for men and women, is announcing an expansion to their line of precious metal inlaid jewelry. A titanium ring with precious metal inlay is stylish and beautiful. Gold, silver or platinum add a unique touch of color to the solid look of titanium and tungsten carbide.

When choosing titanium rings with inlays, its important to understand how the ring is made. At Avant-Garde Jewelry Inc., all inlays are made of solid gold, silver or platinum that is at least 1/3 the depth of the ring. Only true karat gold (14k and 18k), pure platinum and sterling silver are used. Inlay channels are engineered and precision-cut using the latest technology.

Many retailers offer gold plated rings, which look similar to inlaid rings in the beginning, but fade fast as the thin gold plating wears off. Others offer 10k or even 9k gold, which tarnish and can cause allergic reactions, or they use shallow inlay channels that lower costs but compromise the rings integrity.

Avant-Garde Jewelry Co. makes every ring to order with a choice of width, finish, and type of inlay, including 14k, 18k yellow, white, rose gold, platinum and even silver. Avant-Garde makes it easy to choose by showing all possibilities on one page, so the customer can see all the variations at once.

“Every computer monitor will show colors differently,” said Anton Polishuk, President of Avant-Garde Jewelry Co. “Rings can appear darker or lighter; colors can appear more or less saturated. For example, 14k yellow gold can easily look like 18K and vice versa depending on the customers monitor settings. With all the colors on one page, customers have a much better understanding of the differences between the many inlay choices that we offer.”

The Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) today welcomed the federal governments continued commitment to reduce corporate tax rates for Canadian businesses big and small as announced in todays federal budget. This is an important measure that will contribute to Canadas economic recovery and job creation.

However, the budget also proposed certain measures and additional regulations that raise concerns for the banking industry.

“On the one hand, were pleased to see measures that will help all businesses and contribute to Canadas long-term economic growth,” said Nancy Hughes Anthony, President and CEO, Canadian Bankers Association. “Unfortunately, there are some proposed new measures that were introduced today that lead us to question whether they will have the intended benefits for consumers and bank customers.”

On the positive side, the government announced that it will introduce legislation setting out a framework for covered bonds. This is good news as it will increase legal certainty for investors in these debt instruments, making it easier for Canadian financial institutions to access this low-cost source of funding. This will also level the playing field for Canadian financial institutions competing for funding in international markets.

The budget also included a commitment to review consolidated tax reporting in Canada which will reduce the administrative burden for businesses.

“I look forward to the opportunity to lead an organization dedicated to greater global cooperation and economic growth,” said Mr. McGraw. “Now, more than ever, we must remain focused on expanding global access to capital, education, healthcare and technology. I want to especially congratulate Bill Parrett on his extraordinary leadership of USCIB and his contribution to global understanding and trust.

“This is an exciting time and an extraordinary opportunity to foster more coordination between developing and developed countries, in the pursuit of economic growth and improved standards of living.”

A champion of open markets worldwide, USCIB serves as the American affiliate of three global business bodies: the International Chamber of Commerce, the International Organization of Employers, and the Business Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD. Its membership includes over 300 major U.S. multinationals and other firms. USCIB also provides a variety of services for those doing business overseas, including issuing and guaranteeing ATA Carnets, the “merchandise passports” that speed temporary, duty-free export of various types of goods.

“We are excited about working with Terry McGraw,” stated Peter M. Robinson , USCIBs president and CEO. “He is a longtime supporter of USCIB and its fundamental goal of improving the conditions for global trade and investment, and has demonstrated a firm commitment to business leadership on public policy. I would like to express my personal gratitude, and that of USCIBs members, to Bill Parrett for his outstanding stewardship. We look forward to his continued support and participation in our work.”

Saudi Arabia Insurance Report provides industry professionals and
strategists, corporate analysts, insurance associations, government
departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and
competitive intelligence on Saudi Arabias insurance industry.

This report differs from its predecessors in several respects. In our
analysis of competitive conditions, we provide a much more comprehensive
ranking of insurance companies in the major segments from the point of
view of the organisation that is providing the data (in practice almost
always the national insurance regulator or trade association). The Saudi
Arabian insurance sector continues to be dominated by the three biggest
players Tawuniya, Medgulf and Bupa Arabia. Tawuniya grew massively in
2009, nearly doubling in size in terms of premiums, while the other two
lost some premium income during the year.

We also provide a breakdown of the insurance sector by line, from the
point of view of the regulator or trade association. The Saudi Arabian
market is dominated by health products, which is double the value of the
next most popular insurance, motor. They account for around 40% and 20%
of the insurance products marketplace, respectively. Writing in January
2010, we have been able to ensure that the report includes actual data
for 2008. We have generally been able to use data that has been
published over the course of 2009 to adjust our forecasts for the year
as a whole. We have also extended the forecasts to 2014. We forecast
total premiums in 2009 of SAR17,480mn. This is made up of non-life
premiums of SAR16,784mn and life premiums of SAR696mn. In 2014 the
corresponding figures are forecast at AR42,968mn, SAR41,645mn and
SAR1,323mn. In terms of the key drivers that underpin our forecasts, we
forecast that non-life penetration will rise from 1.07% in 2009 to 1.71%
in 2014, and life density from US$7.61 to US$12.97. BMIs Insurance
Business Environment Rating for Saudi Arabia is 53.2 out of 100.

The Chinese car manufacturers SAIC Motor Corporation are to restart production of the MG brand at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham: a move welcomed throughout the motoring industry, and in particular by leading motor trade insurance brokers Staveley Head.

Longbridge, the historic home of MG Rover and other famous British companies, has been largely idle since 2005 when Rover went into administration.

The MG brand was sold to SAIC in 2007. UK manufacture of the new MG6 is scheduled to start in late 2010 and is intended for sale in the UK as well as the wider European market.

The new developments at Longbridge were praised by a spokesperson for Staveley Head, who commented: “This is excellent news both for the UK car industry and for fans of the MG, who will be delighted that this iconic British classic is being made and sold in the UK again. The Longbridge plant has produced some of the worlds finest cars as well as bringing much-needed employment to the Birmingham area.”

Based in Flintshire, North Wales, Staveley Head are a family firm who have been in the commercial insurance business for over 15 years. They work with a number of other high-profile firms to seek out the most affordable deals for their clients.

CTEK, a leading global brand in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries, has today highlighted the importance of proper Battery Maintenance and care as one in four classic cars will develop battery problems during the winter.

As Spring arrives and motorists look forward to driving their classic cars which have been locked up through the winter months, many of them will face disappointment as battery problems mean the car cannot be started.

To avoid this, CTEK has offered some tips to drivers to protect their batteries through the winter months;

- The top of the battery, the terminal posts and connections should be carefully cleaned with water and baking soda to remove any dirt or moisture. Dirty or moist surfaces increase the level of self discharge.

- Contact terminals should be clean, dry and lightly greased to protect against corrosion.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — AFRICAN QUEEN MINES LTD. (the “Company”) is pleased to announce
receipt from Scientific Services Laboratories of Cape Town, S.A. of
geochemical results from its extensive soil sampling survey over its
King Solomon Project in Mozambique. After careful integration with
geological mapping to date, as well as results of ground geophysics
surveys and sampling programs previously completed, the current data
indicate a number of linear Cu-Au-Zn enriched zones are present, with
the potential to host skarnoid-type Cu-Au mineralization over the
Mankombiti target as well as mesothermal shear-hosted Au-Cu-Zn
mineralization over the Eiland and Kazito targets. The regional soil
sampling results corroborate the strong rock and chip sample results
from the three main target zones previously announced in the Company’s
Press Releases of September 17 and October 14, 2009, and January 11,
2010.

In excess of 7100 samples were collected and assayed as part of the soil
sampling survey over the key targets in the license area, generally from
relatively thin soils which reflect in situ material. Samples were
collected along 100 m spaced lines with two samples collected at every
50 m. These included samples submitted for mini-BLEG gold analysis as
well as samples submitted for AAS analyses for the elements Cu, Pb, Zn,
Co, Ni, Mn and Fe. Applicable quality control procedures were adhered to
in shipment as well as in the analytical process, with the necessary
duplicates, blanks and in-house standards being submitted.

The gridded soil Au results define a number of significant soil
anomalies over the Eiland, Kazito and to a lesser extent the Mankombiti
and Ntumba targets. Approximately 6.5% of all samples reported had
anomalous gold values in excess of 100 ppb Au. The gridded soil Cu
results define a number of soil anomalies over the Kazito, Mankombiti,
Ntumba and Messeca targets, with over 8% of all samples reporting Cu
values in excess of 200 ppm. The gridded soil Pb results, like the soil
Zn results, are typically elevated over the metacarbonates within the
Kazito, Mankombiti and Ntumba areas. Over 13% of the Zn values were in
excess of 200 ppm.

Preparations are now underway for a 3000 m reconnaissance core drilling
program set to commence immediately upon conclusion of the rainy season
when vehicular access is possible. Principal drill targets have already
been selected over the key target zones discussed herein and a drilling
contractor has been secured. A site visit by our team to conduct further
preparatory work is scheduled to take place later this month. Weather
permitting, it is hoped that drilling will commence in the first part of
April.

The King Solomon Project is located within the central parts of the
Mesoproterozoic Fingoe Belt in western Tete Province, Mozambique. These
rocks consist of metavolcanics, metasediments and intrusive granitic and
gabbroic rocks. The license is the subject of the Earn-in and Joint
Venture Agreement dated July 10, 2009 (the “Agreement”), with
Swiss-based Opti Metal Trading Limited (“Optimetal”), covering
exploration, development and exploitation of Prospecting License No.
884L held by Optimetal’s Mozambique subsidiary (the “License”). The
License covers an area of approximately 230 km2 in the center
of the Fingoe Belt, adjacent to permits which are the subject of
existing earn-in and joint venture Agreements between the Company and
Manica Minerals Ltd. and African Eagle Resources plc (AIM: AFE),
respectively, covering an aggregate of 1359 sq.km.

“Through out the world, many countries (such as the U.S., Japan, the U.K., etc.) are very concerned with reducing health care costs, particularly in the delivery. The now common access to the Internet by the consumer and professional health care organizations has enabled easy data communication between people, their homes, and commercial workplaces. Just as it was, and remains important, that personal computers be easily upgraded and expanded into new productivity boosting tasks, so is GeckoSystems CareBot. GeckoSystems mobile robot solutions use a multi-layered biological hierarchical hardware and software architecture. Virtually all forms of life in our world have this innate capability.

“One might ask: What vital signs data can the CareBot collect and who gets to see that data? GeckoSystems CareBot has an onboard local area network (LAN) that enables literally dozens of computers and devices to be used concurrently on board. (Presently there are over ten.) The CareBot has Internet accessibility. It can send and receive email with files attached. It can read email out loud for the care receiver using GeckoChat. And it can forward files to authorized persons via the Internet.

“If a healthcare professional deems (and is authorized by the primary care giver) that the CareBot should request a blood pressure reading, and it has that third party system incorporated, it can take that data and send it to the parties designated by the primary caregiver. If the health care professional determines that blood sugar should be checked, and the CareBot has that third party system incorporated, once again it can take that data, perhaps using voice prompts from GeckoChat™ to assist the care receiver in that reading, and once again send it to the parties designated by the primary caregiver.

“If there is a need for video conferencing between the caregiver (or a medical professional) and care receiver, the robustness of the CareBots biological hierarchical architecture enables that to readily be employed over the Internet just as we presently use webcams and the Internet for spontaneous video conferencing.

Video gets patients more involved in hand hygiene Patients, physicians report more questions asked The video, called “Hand Hygiene Saves Lives,” was tested in common areas and patient rooms at 17 Catholic Health Partners hospitals; the research was coordinated by the Premier Healthcare alliance. Inside Obamas Brain, by Sasha Abramsky, Portfblio, 278 pages, $24.95 DECEMBER 2009 may go down as the single most consequential month in Barack Obamas presidency. Starting with his announcement of a troop escalation in Afghanistan, through a Nobel Peace Prize speech in which he touted the benefits of war, then an international climate change conference that broke down in disarray, topped by a convulsive national health care debate that nevertheless staggered toward the legislative finish line by Christmas, the president at every impactful step encountered something new in his meteoric young political career: sustained and even vicious criticism from his core fan base on the left. After the Afghan announcement, 60s New Left relic Tom Hayden declared in The Nation that “its time to strip the Obama sticker off my car” At Open Left, Paul Rosenberg characterized the presidents Oslo performance as a “War-is-Peace Prize speech “When the Copenhagen climate talks broke down (for more on which see “Climate Crackup/ page 28), anti-globalization author Naomi Klein concluded in The Guardian that the “failure belongs to Obama” And by the time the 2,457-page health care overhaul made it through the Senate, a whos who list of progressives–including former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and netroots impresario Markos Moulitsas–were actively campaigning against it. Yet even with the noisy dissent on his left flank and record-setting disapproval ratings from the public at large, the president kept getting stuff done, not least of which appears to be the single largest entitlement expansion since the 1960s. The busy month of December also saw passage of an omnibus spending bill and subsequent Pentagon package that together helped jack up federal outlays by more than 10 percent over the previous year amid only scattered national discussion. The House of Representatives passed a massive financial regulation overhaul that would create a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, the national debt ceiling was raised once again, and the Obama has governed like the most stereotypical of old-school economic progressives. As ever, nonideology turns out to be ideological after all. Environmental Protection Agency took the potentially monumental step of regulating carbon (see “The EPAs Carbon Footprint,” page 36). For a guy who seems perpetually on the verge of losing his political mojo, Obama manages to accomplish quite a bit.

A MAN has been jailed and a woman banned from an area for being nuisance neighbours. Complaints against tenant Stephen Volans and his girlfriend Samantha Whitten, of Holme Park flats, Berry Brow, led to Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) taking action. Volans was jailed for 16 weeks and Whiten was excluded from Holme Park Court and the adjoining Bishops Court. An injunction taken out in June this year against Volans and Whitten banned them from using or threatening violence, harassing people and engaging or threatening to engage in conduct that is capable of causing nuisance or annoyance to any individual residing, visiting or engaging in lawful activity within Huddersfield. But Volans continued to breach his order and ended up in court where he was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison.

February 15th to acquire Security Benefit Corporation (SBC)
today indirectly contributed $175 million of capital into Security
Benefit Life Insurance Company (SBL), SBC’s primary life insurance

the proceeds of which were contributed by SBC to SBL pursuant to the
acquisition agreement.

“We are pleased that major credit rating agencies already have changed
their outlooks for SBL and First Security Benefit Life Insurance and
Annuity Co. of New York to positive, and we remain focused on following
through on our plans to return to investment grade,” said Howard R.
Fricke, interim Security Benefit chairman of the board, president and

Fricke also said that he is pleased with the positive reception the
acquisition is receiving from Security Benefit’s distribution partners,
including the NEA’s Member Benefits Corporation.

a very positive development,” said Andy Jetter, FHLBank Topeka president

NEW YORK — CapLease, Inc. (NYSE: LSE), a real estate investment trust (REIT)
focused on single-tenant commercial real estate investments, today
announced its results for the fourth quarter and full year ended
December 31, 2009. Net (loss) to common stockholders for 2009 was
$(16.8) million, and funds from operations, or FFO, was $34.8 million.

2009 Highlights:

For the year ended December 31, 2009, the Company reported total
revenues of $178.2 million, compared to total revenues of $182.3 million
in 2008. FFO adjusted for items that affect comparability was $51.9
million, or $1.05 per share, compared to $49.3 million, or $1.08 per
share, in 2008. Our 2009 adjusted FFO results well exceeded the high-end
of our guidance of $1.01 per share. Net (loss) to common stockholders
for the year ended December 31, 2009 was $(16.8) million, or $(0.34) per
share, compared to net (loss) of $(26.0) million, or $(0.57) per share,
in 2008.

Included in the 2009 unadjusted results is $26.9 million of loss on
investments partially offset by $9.8 million of gain on debt
extinguishment. The loss on investments is comprised primarily of $11.9
million impairment during the fourth quarter on our property in
Johnston, Rhode Island and $13.2 million of previously announced loss on
sale of selected assets in connection with recourse debt reduction. The
gain on debt extinguishment resulted from repurchases of our convertible
senior notes and collateralized debt obligations at significant
discounts as we took advantage of severe market dislocations primarily
in the first half of 2009.

Recognition Places Hospital in Top 1 Percent in the Nation;

Hospital Also Recognized as Distinguished Hospital 8 Years in a Row

LOS ANGELES — Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles is named as One of
America’s 50 Best Hospitals in 2010 by HealthGrades, Inc., the nation’s
leading independent healthcare ratings organization. Good Samaritan
Hospital has received this distinction for four consecutive years.
Good Samaritan is the only hospital in Los Angeles to
receive this designation from HealthGrades every year since it began
recognizing America’s 50 Best Hospitals in 2007.

The report, which analyzes objective patient outcomes at all 5,000 of
the nation’s nonfederal hospitals, places Good Samaritan in the top 1
percent of all hospitals in the nation. Good Samaritan was also
recently named a HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical
Excellence™ for the eighth consecutive year, a distinction reserved for
the top 5 percent of all hospitals in the nation.

“To be ranked among America’s 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades for four
consecutive years is a great honor and tribute to our physicians and
staff who deliver wonderful care to our patients year after year,” said Andrew
B. Leeka, president and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital. “This
unwavering commitment to quality can be found in every aspect of our
organization. This recognition challenges us to continue that commitment
and assure that everyone in our community has access to the best
possible care.”

Nextrials’ Prism™ Continues to Set the Standard for Enabling
Information Sharing between Clinical Trial and Hospital Sites

SAN RAMON, Calif. — Nextrials, Inc., a leader in clinical research software and services,
will showcase the interoperability of its award-winning electronic data
capture (EDC) technology for clinical trials and healthcare, Prism™, at
the 2010 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society
(HIMSS) Conference and Exhibition, being held in Atlanta’s Georgia World
Congress Center March 1-4. Nextrials recently completed a successful
demonstration of Prism’s interoperability at the 11th Annual
IHE North America Connectathon in January, and it will now be one of 73
vendor products participating in the HIMSS10 Interoperability Showcase™.

The Showcase is configured in multiple scenarios where patient health
information is exchanged electronically — from application to
application, system to system and setting to setting — across multiple
healthcare enterprises. Additionally, the NHIN and CONNECT programs, led
by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Federal
Health Architecture (FHA), are hosting demonstrations illustrating the
progress toward health IT interoperability nationwide. In addition to
Nextrials, participants include federal government, states, cities,
providers and health IT vendors clustered around the categories for
meaningful use: quality measurement reporting, diagnostics,
administrative efficiency, consumer empowerment, care coordination
improvement, and population and public health improvement.

“Nextrials was one of the first companies to recognize the importance of
the integration of electronic data capture formats used in clinical
trials with platforms used by the healthcare industry for electronic
health records,” commented James Rogers, CEO and co-founder of
Nextrials. “As one of the organizations taking a lead role in the
development of interoperability standards, we believe cooperative demos
such as the HIMSS Showcase are key to furthering this initiative. It has
enormous implications and benefits for the pharmaceutical RD and
healthcare industries, ranging from cost benefit improvements to
furthering the adoption of a national IT standard for healthcare
information.”

Nextrials’ award-winning Prism melds sophisticated clinical trial
management functionality with EDC in a single, integrated package. By
receiving a constant flow of data, Prism enables sponsors and sites to
fully utilize real-time integration of disparate information and data
sources, such as a hospital’s EHR or patient records, to better provide
a continuum of care for patients enrolled in clinical trials.

RFID cabinets now include locking doors, mobile and tabletop
styles for the real-time tracking of critical medical supplies

LITTLETON, Mass. — WaveMark,
Inc., a leading provider of real-time inventory management (RTIM)
solutions for high value medical products, today announced several new
RFID smart cabinet styles to store and track a wider variety of critical
supplies used in specialty departments. The increased variety of RFID
storage units for the real-time tracking of medical supplies is
enabling hospitals to improve cost containment, patient safety, and
regulatory compliance.

New RFID-enabled smart cabinet styles include a 5-shelf cabinet with
locking doors, a wireless mobile cabinet for easy transport from storage
to procedure room, and a tabletop cabinet for tracking smaller
inventories. WaveMark users in Cath Labs, Operating Rooms, and Surgical
Centers are benefitting from the increased choices for storing and
tracking medical devices and other frequently used items such as
guidewires and catheters.

“As a direct result of customer demand, we’ve added numerous smart
cabinet styles to store and track a greater variety of products used in
hospital specialty departments,” said John Wass, CEO, WaveMark, Inc.
“The accuracy and access of information captured by WaveMark’s RFID
cabinets is recognized by hospital administrators as a driving force of
reduced costs and improved care. These new cabinet styles are in direct
response to their requests to track a specific array of products, not
easily stored in our current RFID storage configurations.”

The locking door cabinet ensures the security of high cost supplies.
Items in the locking cabinet can be accessed via an RFID fob or PIN that
identifies the individual who accessed the product. This smart cabinet
is ideally suited for high-value products, such as implantable cardiac
defibrillators or pacemakers, and to store products in areas where
higher security is necessary. The mobile, wireless cabinet allows the
easy transport of items from storage areas to procedure rooms while
maintaining real-time read reliability over a 12-hour battery-life. The
tabletop cabinet is used to track inventory in small places or smaller
inventories such as heart valves.

Quality Check measures added by Joint Commission Quality Check displays data on National Quality Improvement Goals for hospitals on selected performance measures in six treatment areas: childrens asthma care, heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, pregnancy, surgical care, and pregnancy. The EDs performance in all of these areas becomes part of the hospitals data submission to Quality Check. That information then can be accessed by consumers as part of their search for hospital care. Bruce S. Auerbach, MD, FACEP, vice president and chief, emergency and ambulatory services at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA, says, “Once a person has been admitted to the hospital, the ED really has no further involvement in what goes on while in theyre in the hospital or upon discharge.” However, he notes, “Some EDs have instituted programs that process or provide more care in the ED or through which patients are overseen in adjacent areas — like observation or clinical decision units — as a means to manage those individuals they think they can take care of within a 24-hour-period and not admit them.” These patients, he continues, will be discharged from the ED or the other units, in which case the ED staff that oversee that unit will provide discharge instructions, he says. In addition, he notes, some institutions will put case managers in the ED. “Because they have so much to do with discharge planning, they will use them in the ED even for patients who are being admitted since they can start work early on discharge planning so that when theyre discharged there are no obstacles in the way of going home,” Auerbach explains.

HE WAS a fourhandicapper when he turned professional 16 years ago and he started out selling chocolate bars and tee-pegs. But now Ian Poulter is the first English golfer to win an individual World Golf Championship title. Not only that, the 34-yearold from Woburn is up to a career-high fifth in the world, just behind Lee Westwood and just ahead of Paul Casey – the player he beat 42 in yesterdays 36-hole final of the Accenture Match Play in Arizona. And there is more. Poulter is nearly pounds 900,000 richer, has his first US Tour win, leads the European money list and looks a certainty for a third Ryder Cup cap in October – there will be no need for a wild card this time. Poulter was Nick Faldos controversial pick (along with Casey) for the last match against the Americans, but responded with four points out of five and was the top scorer on either side.
MARANA, Ariz. — The trophy Ian Poulter is taking home from the Match Play Championship is called the “Walter Hagen Cup.” For his first victory on American soil, perhaps thats only fitting. Hagen, among golfs greatest players with 11 majors, was regarded as much for his snappy attire as his record four straight PGA Championships when they were match play. The Haig would have liked this spunky Englishman.
iGo , a leading provider of smart, eco-friendly power management solutions, has been named the official Green Power Partner of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The Waste Management Phoenix Open Media Center, as well as other tournament venues, will be outfitted with dozens of energy-saving iGo Power Smart Tower surge protectors as well as iGo Laptop Chargers with iGo Green Technology. The smart, eco-friendly iGo Green Technology products automatically detect when a device is not in use and shut off power drawn from the wall, eliminating wasted energy that is drawn by devices and chargers.

iGo Green Technology automatically reduces wasted standby — also known as Vampire power — by up to 85 percent. The iGo Green Laptop Charger powers virtually all laptops and also features a USB device to power almost every electronic device on the market, including smart phones, iPods , GPS systems, digital cameras and more.

The recently launched iGo Green Technology line will help conserve the amount of energy used at the golf tournament. The two met at a bar in Provo the night of Feb. 10 and went back to her Orem apartment, police said. The man gave her a pill to help her sleep around 3 a.m. The woman told police she remembered waking up briefly to find the man sexually assaulting her and then blacked out for several hours before waking up undressed.
Our childs forehead was gashed to the skull. InstaCare referred us to the Primary Childrens Medical Center emergency room for its skilled stitchery. We had to wait six hours while many kids with coughs and sniffles were seen before us. Sen. Chris Buttars has proposed to allow emergency rooms to refer non-emergency cases over to clinics. It would not only save millions in tax and insurance costs, but would help emergency cases be seen quicker. Buttars “health care reform” is something I would support.
High-Definition Surgical Procedure Videos and Medical Slide
Images Streamed Overseas

TOKYO — OKI

Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6703), that designs

partnered with Kyushu
University to successfully stream live HD-resolution(*1)
surgical procedure videos to overseas recipients.

This feat was demonstrated in the 29th
Asia-Pacific Advanced Network Conference (*2)
held in Sydney from February 8th-11th
as part of medical working group to illustrate some of the groups
activities. In the demonstration, OKI
Networks “OKI MediaServer”(*3)
was connected remotely to a media system located at Kyushu
University, after which videos of high-definition
surgical procedures and medical slide images were streamed from Kyushu
University to the APAN venue, Seoul
National University Bundang Hospital in Seoul, Korea,
and to the Kyoto Second Red Cross Hospital, in Kyoto, Japan.

Kyushu
University has pursued telemedicine education with a
special focus on Asia, establishing ultra high-speed Internet
connections with 115 universities and medical institutions in 24
countries by the end of 2009. Using this network, it has delivered
videos of medical conferences and endoscopic surgical procedures.
However, since the conventional surgical video delivery used the DVTS(*4)
method, the number of sites to which the videos could be delivered
concurrently was limited to between four to eight to ensure the
bandwidth needed. Moreover, the video data transferred was at merely
standard resolution (SD).

ONE in four student nurses in Britain drop out of their courses and leave the NHS – wasting pounds 100million of taxpayers money and causing a recruitment shortage. Of the 21,338 nursing students on courses in 2008, 5,855 – more than 28 per cent – didnt finish training, a survey by the Nursing Standard journal found. The cost of paying course fees, the fear of not getting a job, the struggle of juggling work and family life and bad experiences during hospital training were the main reasons most students quit. Peter Carter, head of the Royal College of Nursing, warned yesterday: “Losing this number of potential nurses is an unnecessary waste, not only of money, but of people who are willing to care.”

Over two million(1) cost-cutting UK renters are putting their valuable possessions at risk by failing to take out contents insurance, according to a recent survey carried out by Swinton the UKs leading high street retailer of home insurance .

A Gfk NOP poll revealed that 38%(2) of renters admitted that they did not have a policy to cover their belongings compared to less than one in ten (just 9%(2)) of homeowners.

These statistics are particularly concerning due to the UKs rapid rental surge. Recent statistics show a substantial increase in the size of the rental sector, with private and social rentals now accounting for almost a third of households. New figures show that six out of 10 people cannot afford to move out of rented accommodation because first-time buyers are struggling to get on the housing ladder.

Steve Chelton, Insurer development manager at Swinton said: “According to recent British Crime Survey figures, burglary rates still remain quite high and are set to stay that way with the current economic climate. This makes the fact that so many renters dont have contents insurance even more worrying.

“Contents insurance isnt compulsory like buildings insurance and as a result it is often seen as non-essential by renters, especially when they have other financial priorities. We strongly recommend that people protect their possessions against theft and damage. It is important to remember that a short-term saving could prove costly in the long run.”

Swinton, the UKs leading high street retailer of car insurance is reporting a moderate increase for quotes on cars with engines over 2000cc compared to this time two years ago.

The insurance broker has also seen a small decrease in the amount of cars with engines less than 1,000cc during the same period.

Engine size is one of the key factors that can affect a motorists car insurance premium; generally, a larger engine will mean a higher premium while the opposite is true for a smaller engine.

Swintons findings are backed up by a study by the Office for National statistics, which has reported that the number of licensed vehicles with the engine capacity of more than 2,000cc increased from 2.3 million in 1999 to 4.0 million in 2008.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton said, “Engine size is one of the key elements that can affect a customers insurance premium. Customers should always get an insurance quote on a car they are planning to purchase so that they know how much they will have to pay and are not left with a hefty insurance premium they cannot afford.”

UK van drivers are turning to traditional fish and chips as their favourite British takeaway, according to figures released today.

An online survey of 1,200 customers by van insurance retailer, Swinton Commercial, found that a staggering 75% of van drivers voted for the traditional British takeaway.

The poll found that another British favourite, the infamous bacon or sausage sarnie, came in second place with 11% of the votes. The more exotic offerings of chicken tikka masala, lamb doner kebab and sweet and sour chicken scored less well with Swinton van insurance customers.

According to the survey the top takeaways were:

DENVER — Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) today announced that it has
signed a major contract to supply three 324MVA hydro power generators to
Isagen S.A. E.S.P., a leading Colombian power generation company, in
partnership with Mitsui Co. Plant Systems Ltd. The generators will be
installed at the Sogamoso hydro power plant in Santander state.

Toshiba is the worlds leading developer and supplier of hydro power
generator technology, and has already supplied a total of 35 generators
to Colombia. The new units are the largest capacity generators Toshiba
has yet supplied in the Colombian market and will arrive on site at
Sogamoso by January 2012. The plant will be commissioned by the end of
2013.

The Columbian power market is expected to see a 3,000MW increase in
generating capacity over the next decade, driven by strong economic
growth. Colombia is rich in water resources and 80% of the increased
capacity, approximately 2,400MW, is expected to come from expanded use
of hydro power(1), making it the largest single energy
sources. In order to support execution of the Sogamoso project and to
seek to secure further orders for hydro power business, TIC opened a new
office in Colombia this January.

TIC was established in the U.S. in 1967 to promote Toshibas power plant
systems and industrial equipment business in North America. The company
has a wealth of experience in hydro power equipment, and has so far
delivered a total of 33 turbines and 55 generators in the U.S. and
Canadian markets. TIC is now seeking leadership in supplying equipment
for the many hydro plant refurbishment projects being initiated in North
America, and is also intensifying expansion into new markets, including
the promising markets of South America.

Hydro power generation is the worlds most widely used renewable energy
resource. In terms of energy strategy and achieving an optimized energy
generation mix, stable output and operating costs, Toshiba recognizes
hydro power generation as equal in importance to nuclear and thermal
power, including geothermal energy. Toshiba will aim to secure further
contracts and to enhance its business in key markets with strong demand
for hydro power systems, including North and South America, India and
Southeast Asia.

COVERING UP THE inconvenient facts of his resume, donning new identifies the way other men change suits, the hidden persuader at the center of AMCs Mad Men has a talent for duplicity that would seem to place him squarely in pop cultures rich canon of ad industry villains. But even with his fake name, appropriated past, perfect show family, and less than ethical approach to client management, Don Draper stands apart from the cynics, hoodwinks, hacks, and evil mesmerists who populate the pages of such anti-advertising tomes as The Hucksters, The Hidden Persuaders, and No Logo. At home in his dining room or at a fancy restaurant wooing clients, Draper may be a lying, boozing con man. But when hes in his office, dreaming up catch phrases to sell products, the specters of candor and authenticity possess him. “You are the product,” Draper tells a neophyte copywriter. “You, feeling something. Thats what sells” He doesnt just want to sell us the sizzle of girdles and popsicles; he wants to sell us their souls. Art Copy, a 2009 documentary about the advertising business, is built around interviews with eight of the industrys most celebrated practitioners. One of them, the legendary ad man George Lois, echoes Drapers passion. “I can get excited about selling a new kind of pin; growls Lois, a pugnacious blusterer whose campaigns for MTV and Tommy Hilfiger helped turn them into cultural mainstays. Contemplating a pins very pinness–identifying the precise qualities that make it useful to us and enhances our lives–is the path toward great advertising. The contrarian theme that advertising is at heart a medium for profound truth telling runs throughout Art Copy, which will be out on DVD this summer. The more common nonindustry view is of advertising as a fundamentally crooked enterprise that aims to brainwash us into buying products we dont really need to solve problems we dont actually have and attain ideals we dont genuinely aspire to. Art Copy departs from this stereotype in large part because its not a nonindustry depiction. While aimed at general audiences and directed by Doug Pray, whose past work includes documentaries on suffers, graffiti artists, turntablists, and the Seattle music scene, the movie was funded by The One Club, which describes itself as “the worlds foremost non-profit organization for the recognition and promotion of excellence in advertising”

The advance publicity does not suggest that the ad says anything about how governments should treat abortion.

The video encourages patients, family, and visitors to play a role in their own care by helping health care professionals remember to clean their hands before and after touching patients. After the video was shown, patients were twice as likely to report reminding nurses to wash their hands, and doctors were twice as likely to report being asked by patients to wash their hands. In addition, after watching the video, the majority of patients:
Data hold the key to low readmit rates As a first step toward decreasing readmission rates, examine your data, says Margaret VanAmringe, MPH, vice president of public policy and government relations in the Washington, DC, office of The Joint Commission. “Look at readmissions and discern whether there are opportunities to reduce the number,” she advises. “That will, of course, depend on disease category, population, age, and many different factors.” It will behoove you “to really analyze readmissions, assess these data, use a random sample of charts, and look to see if there is a certain group of patients in these three areas where you feel there could be the potential to prevent readmissions,” VanAmringe says. Michael C. Choo, MD, MBA, FACEP, FAAEM, ACHE, president and CEO of Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, OH, says, “Its always been very important to evaluate the data on a monthly basis and find solutions.” Choo, who served for 10 years as the ED medical director at Dayton Heart Hospital, is bringing what he learned there to his new position. “Congestive heart failure is the most difficult of the three because its especially problematic in [the Medicare] population,” he says. “Initiatives weve used include trying to identify at the time of discharge those patients who need extra support at home or additional education.” For those patients who are identified as high-risk, arrangements are made for intense home health care followed by outpatient therapy sessions, he says. His current health system has congestive heart failure clinics, where patients status is monitored to make sure they stay stable and dont return to the ED or the hospital, he says.

ST. LOUIS — Through a partnership with Inquisit, Amerinet’s strategic education
partner, Alsius Corporation (recently acquired by ZOLL Medical
Corporation) was able to expand educational programming related to its
innovative products and increase attendance to its webinars by 940
percent.

“The goal is to educate,” said Dr. Xia Luo, director of clinical
education for ZOLL Medical Corporation, a pioneer in the development of
intravascular temperature management therapies for critically ill
patients in intensive care, emergency departments and surgical settings.
“Through educational webinars, we are able to assist physicians and
nurses in their mission to improve patient care.”

Prior to its association with Inquisit, Alsius had worked with a
different company to extend educational services, but had been
disappointed in attendance, particularly the low number of physicians
represented.

Supported by an educational grant from Alsius, Inquisit’s team
developed, marketed and presented three education sessions on
temperature management in patients. A total of 940 healthcare
professionals in all 50 states and 15 foreign countries participated –
an increase of 940 percent from the prior year. The sessions were
offered at no charge to participants and/or their facilities due to the
educational grant from the company. The programs are archived and
continue to provide needed education via Inquisit’s Learning-On-Demand.

“I really prefer Inquisit because of its association with Amerinet and
the access to the Amerinet network,” Dr. Luo said. “Inquisit provided a
lot of flexibility and options that fit our needs.”

LOS ANGELES — Simon Property Group Inc., the nations largest shopping mall owner, made a $10 billion hostile bid Tuesday to acquire ailing rival General Growth Properties. The acquisition would allow General Growth, the No. 2 owner of shopping centers, to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. General Growth filed for bankruptcy last year after buckling under the weight of billions in debt it racked up during a massive expansion effort fueled by cheap credit. The move is Simons second attempt at a major acquisition in three months. In December, Simon offered $700 million in cash and stock to buy more than 60 outlet shopping centers from another competitor, Prime Outlets Acquisition Co. The deal is pending. Simon is using its comfortable cash cushion and credit lines to take advantage of falling commercial property values, which are off 40 percent from their peak in 2007. And General Growth has some prized centers, including the Glendale Galleria in Southern California and the South Street Seaport in Manhattan.

Florida Insurer Updates Technology Platform and Expands Services for
Agents

FALLS CHURCH, Va. — CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced a six-year extension to its business
process outsourcing (BPO) services agreement with Sunshine State
Insurance Company, St. Augustine, Fla. Under the extension, CSC will
support Sunshine State’s personal and commercial property business
through January 2016 from an upgraded technology platform that automates
more of the underwriting process, making it easier for agents to conduct
business with the company. This contract was awarded to CSC during the
company’s fiscal 2010 second quarter.

CSC’s end-to-end processing services continue to support Sunshine
State’s underwriting, rating, policy issuance and administration, agency
point of sale automation, customer service, print and imaging, financial
accounting and reporting to bureaus and industry databases. These
services, provided since 2000, contributed to the insurer’s growth from
a start-up in 2000 to managing more than $110 million in direct written
premium in 2009, exemplified through the addition of another line of
business and expansion beyond the Florida borders into South Carolina.
CSC currently administers the company’s property business in Florida and
South Carolina on the latest versions of CSC’s POINT IN policy
administration system and Agency Link, the software automating the front
end.

Through this extension, Sunshine State and CSC are expanding the
technology and services for improved risk management and selection,
business analytics and advanced Web 2.0 capabilities. Agents can enter
data, obtain quotes, underwrite and issue policies online, as well as
conduct other functions throughout the policy lifecycle, all in a matter
of minutes.

“The Agency Link functionality has already been released to our first
group of agents, and the response has been phenomenal. Many of them
attribute their success to how quickly they can provide answers to their
customers,” said John Rogan, president and CEO, Sunshine State. “CSC’s
BPO services have also enabled Sunshine State to employ a virtual
insurer model with a focus on delivering exceptional service. As we
expand, CSC’s BPO staff and systems can scale to meet our needs.”

Extension reflects ongoing demand for BAC’s custom ligand and
bioprocess products

NAARDEN, Netherlands — BAC BV, the leading provider of antibody-based affinity purification
technology, has extended its collaboration with GE Healthcare with the
addition of a new bioprocess affinity chromatography ligand to GE
Healthcare’s range of custom designed media. The latest addition to the
range is an affinity resin for the purification of alpha-1 antitrypsin
(AAT) from blood plasma, recombinant cell culture or transgenic sources.
The new resin has been developed as part of GE Healthcare’s Custom
Designed Media (CDM) programme and provides a new solution for AAT
purification in the biopharmaceutical industry.

AAT deficiency is a common genetic disorder thought to affect
approximately 200,000 people in North America and Europe, although it is
believed that 95% of patients remain undiagnosed. AAT is a protease
inhibitor that protects body fluids and tissues from the body’s own
protease enzymes, and a deficiency can lead to emphysema, COPD, or in
some cases, liver damage. AAT deficiency can be treated by supplementing
patients’ AAT levels. Plasma-derived AAT therapeutics on the market
include Prolastin (Talecris), Aralast (Baxter) and Zemaira (CSL
Behring), and there are a number of recombinant products in development.
With the current AAT therapy market being significantly underserved by a
shortage of AAT supply BAC hopes that its AAT affinity ligand, developed
as part of BAC’s CaptureSelect® range, will provide
manufacturers with a more streamlined and higher yielding purification
option.

The provision of custom ligands is one of BAC’s core businesses, with
the resulting ligands feeding into its rapidly growing bioprocess
commercial supply business through collaborations with partners such as
GE Healthcare.

BAC’s CaptureSelect® ligands offer enhanced stability and
specificity compared to traditional affinity ligands, reducing often
lengthy purification processes to a single step and resulting in higher
throughput, reduced costs and fewer complications during the
purification of biotherapeutics. The Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Select ligand
provides a highly specific, simple and reliable affinity solution for
the purification of this important therapeutic.

IHI program building foundation for more quality-conscious providers Open School med students are initiating their own QI programs The goal of the school, she says, is “to advance health care improvement and safety competencies in the next generation. Its an attempt to address the fact that many academic organizations were teaching improvement and safety in a very limited capacity — some not at all — so we wanted to bring it directly to students.” The schools offerings, she explains, “vary from what feel like formal courses to case studies, video clips on YouTube, discussion boards, and journal articles.” Probably the development the IHI found most interesting, she continues, “is that while the program was initially targeted at students, weve also found a large number of faculty members showing interest. They view the content and integrate it with their course curriculum and share it with other faculty so the knowledge can be spread.”

Mobile Dental Clinics, Educational Tools and Interactive Cavity Risk
Quiz Highlight Company’s Participation in National Children’s Dental
Health Month

SAN FRANCISCO — When it comes to oral health, it’s never too early to start. That’s why
a group of Delta Dental companies today launched several new tools to
educate kids on how to take care of their smiles.

As part of Children’s Dental Health Month this February, Delta Dental of
California, Delta Dental of New York and several other Delta Dental
companies under common management will emphasize the importance of
starting good oral health habits early. Parents can help by scheduling
regular dental appointments for their children, but encouraging kids to
take care of their own teeth is important, too.

“We’re making dental education more accessible as well as more fun by
providing new tools to children, such as our online cavity risk quiz and
new games to help them learn more,” said Daniel Croley, DMD, Delta
Dental vice president. “Dental caries is the most chronic childhood
disease in the country, and we need to get more kids to participate in
their own preventive care.”

PASADENA, Calif. ESSEN, Germany — eSolar, a leading producer of modular, scalable concentrating solar
thermal power technology, and Ferrostaal AG, one of the world’s largest
power plant developers, announced today a partnership to deploy turnkey
solar power plants in countries including Spain, the United Arab
Emirates, and South Africa. Under the agreement, eSolar will provide
solar field and receiver technology, while Ferrostaal will provide the
power block as well as manage the overall realization as general
contractor, including financing activities.

“This partnership with Ferrostaal is a real coup for eSolar,” said John
Van Scoter, CEO of eSolar. “Ferrostaal’s extensive construction capacity
and expertise – particularly in the concentrated solar thermal field –
together with eSolar’s award-winning technology, offers us the
opportunity to rapidly construct solar power projects across the globe
in coming years.”

eSolar unveiled Sierra SunTower, a 5 MW commercial-scale solar power
plant, in the summer of 2009. Located in Lancaster, California, Sierra
SunTower is the only power tower facility currently operating in North
America. eSolar has continued the momentum of its international
development with three licensing partnerships across three continents.

In eSolar’s tower technology, mirrors reflect sunlight onto a receiver
mounted atop of a tower. The focused heat boils water within the
receiver and generates high-temperature steam which powers a turbine to
produce electricity. Tower technology is particularly efficient as this
point focusing can reach much higher temperatures than other existing
CSP technologies.

“We are delighted to expand our solar energy portfolio with eSolar’s
proven technology,” said Dr. Klaus Lesker, Board Member at Ferrostaal.
“eSolar is an innovative company setting ambitious cost and quality
benchmarks. Their approach is an ideal complement to the engineering and
contracting skills of Ferrostaal. Working with eSolar, we will be able
to expand our portfolio of projects around the globe in places where
modularity and speed of deployment are at a premium.”

Springer Realty Group of Elverson Pays 100% Commissions

ELVERSON, Pa. — “This is a wonderful although challenging time to be in real estate,”
says Dave Springer, Broker-Owner of the Springer Realty Group of
Elverson, PA. “We’re making those challenges easier and fairer for our
real estate agents by offering two distinct benefits. First, our 100%
commission plans help our agents maximize earnings; second, our
technologically advanced paperless records system virtually eliminates
office time. We invite agents to talk to us who are tired of giving up
to 50% of their hard-earned commissions to their real estate offices in
the 50%-50% split or even the more liberal 70%-30% commission plan, or
who hate dealing with office paperwork drop-offs and floor time issues.”

Springer Realty Group serves home buyers and sellers in a wide area
surrounding its Chester County location: all of Berks, Bucks, Chester,
Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties.

According to Dave Springer, either of the firm’s two commission plans
(both of which pay 100%), result in definite financial advantages for
the selling agent compared with the commissions earned even in the
70%-30% compensation plan.

Under Springer’s first plan, the agent pays Springer Realty Group $195
per month as an office fee, and $395 per property sold. In plan two, the
agent pays Springer a $495 monthly office fee and nothing per
property sold.

Vacuette Coagulation Blood Collection Tube Labels give a visual reference to ensure sample volume is within the fill range. By having a visual reference on every tube, labs can eliminate quality-not-sufficient (QNS) samples and the need to re-draw patients, which helps to reduce costs associated with QNS samples and patient re-draws, as well as to improve the quality of samples and reported results. It is critical that coagulation tubes be filled to at least 90% of the stated capacity to prevent inaccurate diagnosis. Phlebotomists can verify fill-volume guide cards by referencing the tube label at the time of collection, instead of fill volume guide cards.
Focus for excellence laboratory practice.
